BYD Song Plus Battery Report: What It Can Prove

A battery report is useful only when the buyer understands what was measured and what was not. A single state-of-health number cannot establish the complete condition of every BYD Song Plus battery, and different tools may report different fields. Treat the document as one part of a VIN-linked inspection, alongside operation, physical condition and charging evidence appropriate to the exact DM-i or EV.

Establish identity and report provenance

Require the VIN, date, mileage, vehicle version, tool identity and the name of the organisation performing the test. Ask whether the report came directly from diagnostic equipment or was manually summarised by a seller. A screenshot without context may belong to another session or show only one selected field. Compare the recorded identity with the Song Plus model and market record. Preserve the original file where available. A professional-looking certificate does not establish independent testing unless its issuer, scope and relationship to the seller are clear.

Read the definition behind each number

Ask what the reported health or capacity field represents, how the tool obtains it and whether the method is supported for that battery version. A value estimated by a control unit is not automatically the same as a measured usable-energy test. Avoid comparing numbers from different methods as though they shared one scale. Do not invent a universal pass percentage for all Song Plus batteries or promise remaining life from one value. If a report lacks method information, state that limitation explicitly and obtain a qualified interpretation before using the figure to justify a price premium.

Keep operating conditions attached

Record state of charge, battery temperature where available, recent charging or driving and the conditions of any load test. Cell or group readings observed at rest describe that moment, not every operating state. Ask which modules were scanned and whether active and historical faults were preserved. The battery-health guide provides the wider inspection sequence. A clean scan after codes were cleared has a different evidential value from an original pre-inspection report. Do not ask a seller to create extreme operating conditions to make a diagnostic number appear more decisive.

Combine data with physical and functional checks

Inspect the accessible enclosure and underbody through a qualified process for impact, leakage, unusual repairs or corrosion. Do not open a high-voltage pack as a routine buyer check. Compare the report with supported charging sessions and normal driving observations, including warnings or power restrictions. Use the accident, flood and battery-repair assessment when physical evidence raises concern. A favourable electronic number does not cancel damaged protection or undocumented repair, just as cosmetic underbody marks do not by themselves prove that internal battery components are defective.

Ask for a clear account of uncertainty

A useful inspector distinguishes confirmed findings, limitations and tests not performed. Ask whether the assessment covered charging, insulation-related faults, thermal behaviour and any version-specific concerns, without assuming every workshop can perform every test. If a field is unavailable, record it as unavailable rather than zero or passed. For a remote purchase, request enough original evidence for a destination specialist to review the conclusion. The specialist may recommend a focused follow-up, but a request for more data should name the decision it will resolve instead of becoming an open-ended collection of screenshots.

Use the result to set the purchase boundary

Compare candidates using equivalent test methods and conditions wherever possible, and price documented uncertainty separately. A report does not create a transferable warranty or establish that a foreign distributor will repair the VIN. Check the support and warranty position independently. Hold a purchase when significant warnings, enclosure concerns or contradictory records remain unexplained. For a new car, delivery condition and warranty eligibility still matter even if a battery number looks reassuring. The final decision should explain why the complete evidence supports acceptance, not simply reproduce the largest percentage on the page.

Use the evidence in a real buying decision

If one seller supplies a health percentage and another supplies a longer report without that number, do not automatically prefer the first. Compare identity, method, conditions, faults and physical inspection coverage. The longer report may expose useful limitations honestly, while the attractive percentage may have unclear meaning. Request the specific missing evidence needed to compare the candidates on a consistent basis before negotiating around a number.

Questions and answers

Does 100% reported health guarantee a perfect battery?

No. A reported estimate has a method and scope; it does not rule out every fault, damage or future failure.

Can two diagnostic tools give different results?

They can expose or calculate different fields. Confirm methods and compatibility before comparing their numbers.
